Cape Town Gun Run

Get ready for one of the Mother City's favourite fun runs and half-marathons

Hordes of runners are set to take off from the starting line of one of Cape Town's most popular half-marathons and fun runs this October. The 2016 Gun Run (in association with OUTsurance and 94.5 KFM) affords participants of various fitness levels the opportunity to dash through the streets of the Mother City and along the Sea Point Promenade as part of one of three fast, flat races on Sunday, 16 October 2016.

Since its inauguration in 1993, the Gun Run has become a firm favourite on the sporting calendar. Runners can participate in either the half-marathon (21.1-km), 10-km or 5-km race. This year the races will start on Beach Road, Mouille Point and end at the Green Point Rugby Fields on Vlei Road; starting times are staggered – 6:30am, 7:15am and 8:30am respectively – and, as with previous years, the Cape Field Artillery will signal the end of the events with the firing of the battlefield gun at 10am.

Aside from the more grueling fitness-based activities, a host of entertainment is scheduled for the day, most of which will revolve around the KFM music stage. Food and drink vendors will also be on site to satiate any appetite runners (or supporting friends and family members) may have worked up. What's more, athletes are encouraged to stay after the race for the prize giving and lucky draw; all the participants stand a chance of winning a purse of R10 000 in cash, a 40-inch Samsung HD TV and Asics vouchers.

Entries can be submitted via post, fax, and in-store at participating outlets or online through TopEvents.co.za. Do note, entries for the half marathon and 10-km race close on Sunday, 2 October 2016; no late entries will be accepted, but participants in the 5-km can enter on race day.
